About Mystic Manchester Terriers

Doug Jordan and Glenn Orcutt started breeding Manchester Terriers in 2019, however both have been involved in purebred dogs for more than 35 years. Doug and his best girl Shadow could be seen cruising around town on many occasions and were inseparable for over 17 years. Shadow was a tiny toy Manchester from Velvet Firefly Kennel in Pennsylvania. Through an extensive search of pedigrees, photos and ringside observations, Rocky and Ruby were selected to be the foundation for Mystic Kennel.

The Merger:

Emma Lloyd was a junior handler and began showing Rocky for Doug and Glenn, piloting him to his Grand Championship title. When Doug and Glenn decided to breed Rocky and Ruby, they offered Emma a pick puppy as a thank you for handling Rocky at the shows. The pick puppy was Hazel, she was one of 4 girls in the litter and would prove to be a successful girl in the show ring. Hazel achieved her Championship at 7 months, Grand Championship at 10 months, Bronze and Silver would soon follow. We felt we all made a great team and decided to collaborate and thus the 2 locations followed.  Hazel and her two sisters, Rio and Gloria, have had successful careers in the ring with notable wins including Hazel’s 2x Award of Merit at Westminster 2022 and 2024 as well as AKC National Championship Award of Merit 2023 and Gloria’s Select win at the American Manchester Terrier Club Specialty in 2023.

The Next Step:

Hazel proved herself a fabulous show dog and next in line the whelping box. Doug and Becky (Emma’s Mom) sat ringside and studied pedigrees to find the perfect compliment for Hazel. This search went on for nearly 18 months. Then along comes Vinny.

Expert Breeder Advice:

With little luck finding the male we were searching for, Becky reached out to prominent breeder of Toy Manchesters, Dr. Roger P. Travis-Chagas of Cottage Lake Kennel who knows anything you could ever ask about Manchester breeding lines, past show dogs and is just an amazing wealth of information about the sport of conformation. After chatting for a while and explaining what we felt we needed to focus on, he directed me to a young male living about 45 minutes away from us. He said go look at him and let me know what you think – he is currently a pet but he was my pick of that litter. This is where we met Vinny, lovely temperament, fabulous breed type and yes, all the things we had been looking for in one nicely designed Toy Manchester package. We were so thankful for his advice, direction and willingness to help us find the right stud to lead us forward. A few months later Lupo and Blueberry were born.
